New to St. Mary's?

Whether you’re a lifelong Episcopalian or have little formal religious experience, you are welcome at St. Mary’s. One of the best ways to get to know St. Mary’s is to attend a Sunday service. We celebrate the service of Holy Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion, Mass or The Lord’s Supper) at 7:30 and 10 a.m. each Sunday. The earlier service is quiet and reflective and lasts about an hour. The later one—which includes music—is about an hour and a quarter. Both include scripture readings, prayer and a sermon. Please see the Worship page for more information, and plan to join us!

Parking – Our parking lot is next door to the church on Park Street. A limited number of handicapped parking places and accessible entrances are located on the Church Street side of the church.

Attire – There’s no rigid dress code. You’ll probably feel most comfortable in dress-casual clothing.

Greeters – Ushers will be right inside the front doors to say hello and give you a service bulletin that lists the hymns, Bible readings, and prayers for the day. Ushers can also provide audio-enhancement devices. Walk up the center or side aisles and sit wherever you like.

The Service – The bulletin is your guide to the service. It will give you the page numbers to refer to in the Book of Common Prayer, so you can participate in the service. It also contains the readings for that day. Hymn numbers (refer to the Hymnal) are in the bulletin and posted at the front of the church.

The Offering – If you are a first-time visitor to St. Mary’s, you are our guest!  Please don’t feel obligated to place money in the offering plate.

Receiving Communion – Anyone who’s been baptized is welcome to receive communion. Just follow the people in front of you up the center aisle to the communion rail. Cup your hands in front of you to receive the wafer of bread from the priest, then consume the wafer. When the minister of communion comes by with the chalice of wine, you may either sip from the cup or cross your hands across your chest to indicate that you prefer not to drink the wine. Then simply follow other parishioners down the side aisle and back to your pew.

Refreshments –  Coffee, tea and other light refreshments are served in Anderson Hall on Sundays following the 10;00 a.m. service.  Feel free to stop in and say hello. For handicap access to Anderson Hall, exit the church by walking up the left-hand aisle (past the organ), then re-enter the building using the ramp.
